Sri Lanka Tour Package 08 Days/07 Nights
Welcome to the enchanting lands of Sri Lanka! As you touch down at Bandaranaike International Airport, a dedicated driver will be there to greet and transport you to your accommodation in Negombo. Often referred to as the "Little Rome," Negombo bears a rich influence of the Catholic faith, which is evident from the numerous churches dotting its streets. This is particularly notable given that Christianity is less common here, with a majority (70%) of the population adhering to Buddhism. The lagoon of Negombo is renowned for its bountiful catches of lobsters, crabs, and prawns. The bustling fish auctions on the sandy shores are a captivating sight, as are the intricate canals crisscrossing the locale. Once you're comfortably settled in your hotel, a leisurely walk along the beach offers a perfect introduction to local life. Delving into its past, Negombo has seen the flags of the Dutch, Portuguese, and British. The remnants of these colonial eras are visible in the town's distinctive architectural style. Especially during the Dutch occupation, Negombo was a pivotal hub for the lucrative cinnamon trade.
In the morning, following breakfast at your accommodation, a vehicle will collect you for your three-hour journey to Sigiriya. This bygone city stands as one of Sri Lanka's foremost eco-tourism spots. The reason becomes evident upon reaching the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982. Known as "Lion Rock" in English, this title stems from the entrance pathway that tourists use to start their climb: passing through the expansive giriya (throat) of a sinha (lion).
Apart from the monumental rock formation of the fortress, the surrounding terrain is predominantly level. The fortress rock notably protrudes 660 feet (200 m) above the encompassing jungle. Those who ascend the 1,200 steps are rewarded with a glimpse of an excellently preserved piece of ancient city design. Don't forget to spot the vibrant wall frescoes and the massive lion paws etched onto the rock's facade.
Once the tour concludes, you'll be escorted back to your accommodation to enjoy your evening meal.
Today, you're set for a 2.5-hour journey to Kandy, where you'll explore the revered Temple of the Tooth. Nestled within the royal palace complex of the erstwhile Kingdom of Kandy, this significant Buddhist site is home to the Buddha's tooth relic. Brought from India around 2,500 years ago, this esteemed relic lies safeguarded in a golden casket within the temple's Inner Chamber.
As you delve into the temple precincts, you'll be captivated by a series of intricately decorated buildings, many adorned with vivid illustrations and carvings that depict the life of Buddha.
Your voyage will also have a brief interlude at the picturesque Dambulla, where the magnificent Royal Rock Temple awaits. Recognized as Sri Lanka's most expansive and well-conserved cave temple complex, it offers breathtaking vistas of the expansive green landscape below. Here, you'll discover several distinct caves, each housing an array of over 100 remarkable Buddha statues and murals. These pieces of religious artwork, resonating with deep cultural significance, were crafted over two millennia ago.
As dusk approaches, you'll conclude your day with a serene transfer to your Kandy hotel, where a delightful dinner awaits.
Today, you will leave Kandy behind and journey to Sri Lanka's core tea-growing region. Perched at an altitude of 6,200 feet (1,890 m), Nuwara Eliya offers a distinctly refreshing climate, unique within the country and perfect for cultivating tea. This region, once under British influence, still echoes the charm of "Little England." Evidence of its colonial legacy can be seen in the town's passion for horse racing, its historic golf club established in 1889, and its majestic hotels reminiscent of the colonial era.
Your visit will include a tour of a local tea plantation. Later, you can unwind by the serene Gregory Park, a beloved lake spot where visitors can indulge in boating, picnicking, and horse riding.
Today, you'll embark on a one-hour journey to Horton Plains, a renowned natural reserve defined by its picturesque blend of undulating hills, woodlands, and grasslands. This plateau, the highest on the island, shelters 24 mammal species, including elk, deer, wild hare, porcupine, macaque, and even the elusive leopard. Throughout your morning trek, the area's distinct flora will be evident, providing an ideal backdrop to witness the park's rich avian life, with 87 bird species, 14 of which are unique to this region.
One of the most striking features of Horton Plains is the dramatic escarpment known as the "World's End," plunging 2,887 feet (880 m) downwards. From this point, your eyes will be treated to a panoramic view, spanning from the tea estates beneath to the distant southern shoreline. Later in the day, a 4-hour drive will lead you to Udawalawe National Park. Here, you'll settle in for the night at a safari camp.
Today, you'll start your day in the heart of Udawalawe National Park, immersing yourself in the company of majestic elephants! Nestled where Sri Lanka's wet and dry zones converge, Udawalawe stands out as a premier location globally for observing wild elephants. Hundreds of these magnificent creatures roam, bathe, and graze throughout the park. So, have your camera at the ready.
But elephants aren't the only stars of Udawalawe. The park is also a sanctuary for water buffaloes, monitor lizards, sambar deer, and playful monkeys. Birdwatchers, prepare to be delighted by a plethora of unique bird species.
Once your unforgettable park adventure concludes, embark on a scenic 3-hour journey to Galle, situated along Sri Lanka's enchanting southwest coast, where you'll spend the evening.
